Laura Anderson

LMSW psychotherapist

pronouns: she/they

Laura brings a blend of curiosity, playfulness and warm attunement to her work. At the

heart of her practice is client autonomy. Working together you’ll create a space for

healing that centers your definition of wellness, your values, your vision and the pace of

change that’s right for you.

Laura understands stress and trauma as both stuck responses to overwhelming

experiences in our past and adaptive reactions to current oppressive conditions.

Sometimes we need to undo old conditioning to heal and sometimes acknowledging

and grieving the harm caused by unjust social systems is what opens the space for

personal and collective transformation. Often these go hand in hand.

Laura uses a variety of trauma-informed practices to support clients’ innate ability to

move from where they are to where they want to be such as motivational interviewing,

trauma-focused CBT, somatic work, mindfulness and attachment-based family therapy.

She also has training in restorative justice, Loving Conflict facilitation and supports

nervous system resilience as a Resilience Toolkit Facilitator.

Laura is drawn to working with children, adolescents, young adults and families.

Supporting young people and the adults who love them through anxiety, depression,

struggles at school, life transitions, relationship issues, family issues, grief and parenting struggles. She also has experience supporting youth and families navigating CPS involvement, family court and special education services.

With a background in Community Education, Laura has over 20 years of experience

working with youth and families. She’s worked in public schools, as a juvenile justice

diversion caseworker, director of after school and summer youth programs, coordinator

of family support services, co-founder of a childcare collective and a small preschool

and is a mother of a teenager.

Laura received a BA in Community Education from Goddard College and a Master of

Social Work from the University at Buffalo. She is also trained in Horticultural Therapy

and brings relationship with plants and land into the healing work whenever possible.
