WHO WE ARE

EMMA NEVEL

LCSW, Psychotherapist

pronouns: they/them

I value a relational, consent-oriented, anti-oppressive framework that recognizes the wisdom inherent in every individual. I am committed to supporting young people and adults in accessing safety within their bodies, and working collaboratively to establish a trusting therapeutic relationship.

I believe deeply in the importance of honoring agency and self-determination, and I work to support individuals in accessing their innate capacity for resilience and healing. I have experience working with adults, children and teens navigating depression, anxiety, complex trauma histories, chronic illness and chronic pain, identity development, grief, and trauma related to oppression and systemic inequities. I am particularly passionate about working with survivors of sexual and domestic violence, as well as queer and trans youth and adults. I aim to support individuals in exploring their various intersecting identities, and work from a recognition of the interplay between our environments, sociopolitical conditions, and our internal worlds. I offer particular attention to the ways in which trauma, and healing, exist within the body. I am also committed to supporting trans, non-binary and gender nonconforming folks in navigating systemic barriers to gender-affirming medical care.

I received my MSW from Smith College School for Social work and my BA in Spanish and English from Pitzer College. I have received training in relational psychoanalytic theory and Somatic Experiencing, both of which heavily inform my work. Additionally, I have studied child-centered play therapy and parent-child dyadic psychotherapy, which I utilize in my work with children and families.

I have lived and worked in both Cuba and Costa Rica, where I was engaged in supporting local sex-education projects, and I incorporate a sex-positive approach into my work. I also draw from my experiences teaching trauma-informed yoga (as a certified yoga instructor), and facilitating workshops on topics such as consent, healthy relationships, and embodied healing.
